Around fifty automobiles have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's city of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.

Vehicles, building surfaces and postboxes were vandalized, in some cases with swastikas, they reported in a statement.

Police say they were alerted late on Wednesday evening, when a individual discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a reddish liquid.

The fluid had been placed in the form of a swastika, they reported.

Officers then discovered multiple other marked cars and house walls in the nearby vicinity.

Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations banning the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.

Police say initial examinations indicate the substance was most likely blood from a person.

"There is still no lead as to its origin; authorities are presently not aware of any injuries in association with the event," they stated.

City officials stated they were trying "to unravel the case" and have requested to the residents for tips.

A senior representative said the vandalism rendered him speechless and needed to be solved quickly.

"This incident strikes at the center of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the right-wing terrorist attack in 2020," he stated on a platform, mentioning the murder of nine people by a gunman targeting residents of migrant background in five years prior.
