The buzz about this year's gaming ceremony reached a fever pitch, particularly after presenter Geoff Keighley posted an enigmatic photo of a desert monolith. The secret has been revealed. Larian Studios is working on a completely new Divinity game.
Revealed to be Divinity, the game was presented with a daring trailer that included memorable imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the literal opening of infernal gates.
A Different Direction
Anyone anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. Larian warned that a third Original Sin game to its beloved RPGs is not on the cards right now.
That said, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a next chapter of the core franchise. This distinction implies that the team is likely crafting a real-time experience as opposed to another tactical title. At this moment, we can only guess, as only a announcement clip is available.
The Legacy of Divinity
The Divinity series is universally respected and arguably it sparked the modern wave of deep computer role-playing games. These games are defined by intricate stories, player agency, and deep class systems—elements that later reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its universe is classic fantasy, what truly sets Divinity apart is the immense freedom granted to the player.
While numerous modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is full of niche playthroughs that are viable if you're playing as a specific type of character with a specific history of choices.
The series is also famously open-ended, enabling players to improvise throughout the entire experience. Most missions can be completed in a variety of manners, sometimes in lateral fashion.
- You might solve a puzzle because you remembered something a non-human character said.
- Or, you could defeat a foe by using the world itself in a inventive way.
More to Come
It is precisely these elements that have cemented the series to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games ever made. Now, players can anticipate a new entry in this legendary franchise.
